Happy new year… n’ stuff.

Bloody hell! It’s that time of the year again – can you believe it? I mean, really, where did 2010 go? One minute it’s here… all fresh and new, the next – O-V-E-R.

Not being a big fan of New Years parties, I waited for it to cool down and pulled down the ivy that was taking over my wall on the laneway side. While I was busy fighting the evil ivy I saw the BIGGEST praying mantis I’ve ever seen. Really. Literally, even. It was at least as big as my open hand and magnificent. I, of course, picked it up and put it carefully in some bushes away from where I was working. Praying Mantis’ are one of my favourite insects… they are so graceful in appearance, yet primitive at the same time.  I also saw an amazing spider – it was white silver and shone like it was made of mental, I watched it scurry off. Annoyingly, all of my batteries are due for recharging so I did not get photos of either.

A friend/almost-neighbor popped over before the witching hour with beer, benedictine and icecream and we saw in the New Year with a quiet toast while sitting in the back yard enjoying the coool change.  I didn’t partake in beer but could not resist having a shot of benedictine… ah! Nectar of the gods!

I’m not a fan of New Years Resolutions so I’m not making any. I do have some moderate and achievable plans though and these include:

  • Sewing – my aim is to become proficient enough to make clothes but that might take a while – I’ll be doing some courses. As I learn I intend to work on smaller achievable projects to give me the close-enough-to-instant-grafification that I’ll need to stay motivated.
  • Address book overhaul – since moving away from the inner suburbs a few years ago my address book that was once a fine tuned instrument of social interaction has disintegrated into an out of date and much neglected pile of data. I’ve already requested that friends let me know their current contact details. Of course, it’s not about just getting the address book updated – it’s about ensuring I stay in touch with the people in my world/s I adore.
  • Gigs n stuff – getting out to see more gigs and various activities that are fun and meet some more amazing people to mix with the existing ones.

What else is new? Not a lot. I’m back from the ‘burbs and am once again central to everything. I’m going to be an Aunty in late April or early May.

You want more? Phfft. Oh… ok then. Watch this space.

The spring sun filters through the windows and into Grud’s skin, awakening energy that had been dormant over the winter… it unfurls, sits up and says, “Well, lets get to it then, shall we? Yes. Yes we shall.

previously on grudknows.com . . .

Grud blinks blearily and looks around in suspicion and more than a little surprise… what? huh? but… huh?! Seriously! I’m still unpacking the various bits of the site to put them in their new home. Come back … hrm… soon.
